| Hes right Lee. I believe the verse you are thinking about, in context, is when people were thinking and saying Jesus had come to set up the kingdom THEN. As we all know he didn't come to set it up right then. | |

| Alright. The Bible does not contradict itself. Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, And the Father are the same person. They do not have different minds.
....."I think the best examples of this are the familiar lines: "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," and "turn the other cheek." These obviously give conflicting messages. They also clearly show a difference of mind between God and Jesus.".....
You are calling God double minded.
Jesus spoke on your verses.
Matt 5 38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
This is explained by these verses here. Jesus did not come to undo the law, he came to fulfill it.
Matt 5:17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
The law is fulfilled by the love of Christ.
Gal 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!
Love does not include slavery. And if you think it does, I am afraid you are mad. The bible sys to love thy neighbor as thyself. This is a fairly simple verse to understand. Would you hit yourself? No. Would you starve yourself? No. would you put yourself into slavery? No. Slavery is the result of greed no? Greed, and hate, and prejudice.
1 Timothy 6:10 "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
Anyone who owns slaves is not doing it because he loves the slave. Obviously, he/she is doing it for money. If the love of money is the root of all evil, how can you say that the Bible condones slavery as something that isnt evil, when slavery is used to obtain money and the expence of other people? Slavery is one of those evil it is refering to.
You might say," But not all masters were not unkind to their slaves."
So?
Exodus 21:16 "He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death. "
That includes just about everyone. Anyone who has a slave that was kidknapped shall be killed? What does that say for anyone during the CW, or anytime else?! It says that they are on God's hitlist thats what. Doing evil to your brother includes slavery, for God hates it. Obviously. He does not condone it, favor it, or accept it.
You have no facts. I have God's word. Something you have neglected to take into full account because you havent read it enough to understand what you're dealing with. Btw, faith is the evidence of things unseen and the essence of things hoped for. It has nothing to do with blindly believing a book that contradicts itself. There are a million and one different churches because poeple twist the Bible to fit there own points of view, not because the hold different oppinions on it. That is all for now.

| Ah yes, I almost forgot. Here is what I was refering to about kings. 1 Samuel 8:4-22 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have." 6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do." 10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the Lord will not answer you in that day." 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles." 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. 22 The Lord answered, "Listen to them and give them a king." Then Samuel said to the men of Israel, "Everyone go back to his town."
There you go Stuart. | |

| If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. Exodus 21:22-25
And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. Lev.24: 19-20 If you say that the law is no longer punishable than we should have an anarchy as society. But Christ is saying... It is for the civil government to take rengance NOT YOU PERSONALLY! Your friend General Lee.
This verse is telling what a punishment should be for hurting a someone. This Law IS STILL IN EFFECT! what Christ is saying is... (let me give a paraphrase)
"People have perverted my law. They are telling you that you may take rengance into your hands. But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also." The law is still in effect. To say that it is not is to say the ten commandments are not in effect. Christ is merely telling the people the personal rengenance is sin. | |
