SOuth won, south won, south won. Are you going to say anything else. And, really, you guys only look at the fact that Lee surrendered because he had less men. He could have escaped. Thier was a gap in the union line big enough for the army to leave through. Longstreet told Lee this. Lee refused to do it. So, it's partly his own fault that he surrendered when he did.

WEll duh but some people refuse to believe that Lee surrendered because he wanted to not because he had no choice.

Like I said before, no one wants to take the blame. Especially legends.

Lee did take blame. He gave his own blame and got blamed at the beginning of the war.

IBG, I'm surprised at you, you're trying to find fault with Lee, otherwise you would remember that Lee only chose to surrender to save the needless deaths that a prolonging of the war would bring, and because he felt that "All has been lost, save honor." You would also call him an old fanatic if he fought to the death. Lee always did the noble deed, the honorable thing, and it usually was the best thing in the end.

And, yet, you can't accept the fact that Sherman's March to the Sea shortened the war..... And, no. I'm not trying to find fault with the old man. I am just showing you guys that everyone has faults. Even the greats had faults.
