This is an exerpt from a transcript I found: ......... Pillaging continued throughout the city. Women and men, black and white were robbed of their valuables at gun and knife point.99 Black women were raped.100 (btw, if you want to know what account or book that quote came from, I can easily give it to you) Does that answer the question, Oppie? Not only do these villains invade a city that has already submitted to their occupation and DESTROY and BURN CHURCHES and CONVENTS, they commit rape on the very people they're supposedly down their to "free." And Sherman, who was NOT in a "drunken rage" as you put it, looked on the scene and said "They had it coming." As if it was HIS right and duty to dispense HIS version of "justice"? He sounds dangerously alot like John Brown to me.... And by no means were all of the men who destroyed the city drunk, not at all. This is clear if you read the entire exerpt. There are bad soldiers in every army, but what Sherman's men did, and what Sherman himself openly permitted and promoted, was evil. | |

| And about IBG's story, I thought that the moral was, people don't see what they don't want to. Simple as that. Any soldier with stripes on his arm of bars on his shoulder has more than enough power to stop any actions they don't approve of going on in the ranks, especially such relatively trivial acts as tearing down fences. My grandfather was a combat platoon sergeant in Korea, and he has lots of good stories telling how he got his "problem guys" to get in line. Besides people, WHY DO YOU THINK THEY EVEN HAVE DIFFERENT RANKS IN THE MILITARY? Protocol, and all of that? Because that is the only thing that seperates an army from a mob. You know, there is a thing called MUTINY, it exists in the army just as well as in the navy. Mutiny is when a soldier of group of soldiers refuses to obey and follow orders. The punishment for mutiny is anywhere from death by firing squad to lashing, or, (in Sherman's army) anywhere from no punishment at all, to reward! But actually, in the story, it sounded alot like the soldiers tore down the fence in pure spite of their commanding officer, not because they really wanted to. (tearing down fences requires work, and they were on a rest stop for a reason, to take a breather before continuing the march) Another interesting bit of insite into the Union army! | |

| Well, the union troops never got the dying respect for the commanders either. AOTP is famous for it. | |

| Well, I'm glad that you are FINALLY searching for facts to back up your weak arguements lol. However, when you are done, and you see that what I have said is true, then I want you to do like you promised Civ you would, and "drop Sherman like a sack of corn." | |
