PostSubject: Military Statues in Danger (You Can Help)   Military Statues in Danger (You Can Help) EmptySun Jan 07, 2007 11:02 pm

Dear Friends,

Our Heritage Needs Your Help,

This is Judson Watkins (Camp 2107 8 Brig--TX--ATM---SCV) I need your help. The president of U.T. University at Austin is considering removal of the Confederate statues from the university lawn. This is a statue that honors our Texas ancestors. These statues are not depicting racism or supporting slavery, these statues are we descendants trying to honor our ancestors.

If you would like to help, please send a letter expressing your disgust of the idea of removal. I have an example letter if you would like to email me I would be happy to send you the example.

Address:

The University of Texas at Austin
President's Office
PO Box T
Austin, TX 78713

Thanks,

Judson Watkins

Vote: Should the U.T. of Texas remove its statues of Confederate leaders?

It's up to them. If they want them off and moved somewhere else, they have the right to.

PostSubject: Why do we fight?   Military Statues in Danger (You Can Help) EmptyMon Jan 08, 2007 10:29 am

That is a good point. Why, would we want to get into their business?

The fact of the matter is, these statues, along with a dormitory, the lawn accessories, etc. was donated by wealthy Confederate Soldier by the name or George Washington Littlefield. Mr. Littlefield wanted these statues to honor the people he respected. It is stated in the charge of the SCV,

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."
Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General,
United Confederate Veterans,
New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906.
By this we are obligated to resist the removal of these statues.

It seems this obligation is directed toward direct decendants of confederate soliders, which I am not.

However, I have signed a petetion to keep them there on Civility's bidding, because I dont believe that they're presence disgraces anyone(which most likely is the president's cause for removing them, my guess is he has declared them "unconstiutuional".), and to remove them WOULD be an offensive action, just as removing the ten commandments from a courtroom would be an offensive action to Christians.

Well if you put it that way Oppie, I am obligated to help. Jackon's Quartermaster, John A. Harmon, was my great-great-great Great Uncle or something like that.
I also have relations to Oliver Otis Howard too.

Are you mocking me? Suspect You just said you didn't have any relations to anyone. Once I said I did, you "confessed". I was being serious. Are you?

You don't have to be related to a confederate that fought in the CW. You just have to care weather or not the statues stay or go.

Okay. Then in that opinion, you could be. But then of course, if you go back far enough, we are related to Lee.
