Hm... some of them I wonder why they would be on the list (like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain) and others I wonder why the heck the schools want the kids to read them...

(Just as a Mod, I would be carefull about some of the stuff. If someone says something offensive, I'll close the thread ok?) Wink

A bunch of kids are known to have been wounded because of this one, a lot of these books ain't the type to even belong in schools.

I guess I should explain myself, the website I got this from is:

The whole reason I put this up was to see opinions on mostly the classics
that are on there. The worse books on the list are there so that the list is
still in it's original form, once again I appologize for any offense caused to anyone.

Most school districts have practically no ryhm or reason as to what they put on the reading lists; one minute they're super sensitive about something not P.C. and the next they think some peace of garbage is "educational". Rolling Eyes

Civ, the reason that Mark Twain is commonly banned from school reading lists, is that it has the N-word in it in a few places. I know....Rolling Eyes

Because it wasn't, at that time. And I really don't see the offensiveness behind it anyway, I think we're just becoming way too sensetive as a nation. Rolling Eyes

Well I agree that we're too sensitive, But it wasn't trown around back in the 1860's. That word was not used in proper company. The lady in this book said it all the time. She was supossed to be a lady of breeding, having gone to many schools and being the daughter and wife of a plantation owner. tongue

Well, you may be right to some extent, but I have heard many instances when it was used in very high circles in the North.
