| Alot like the northern version of the South's Ewell. An able commander when told point-blank what to do, but unable to make his own dicisions in the clutch. And a blowhard to boot lol. | |

| He would have been the best general of the CW in my opinion if he hadn't have got cold feet when Lee decided to dance Hooker's tune. (if you get my meaning.) | |

| These are the reasons why I liked Hooker.
1: Restored Moral to the AOTP. 2: Got fruit started to be feed to the blue men. 3: One of the only aggresive fighters of the AOTP. 4: He had a very good plan and everything he said he did. Notice, he never said he was going to take Richmond. Only that he was going to have no mercy on Lee. And, although Jackson got shot by his own men, it was Hooker's fault he got shot. | |

| That doesn't make sense IBG. It wasn't Hooker's fault he was shot, the same could have happened in any battle Jackson took part in, no matter who was commanding the Union mob. | |

| What I was saying was it was Hooker's fault for allowing the XI not to dig in, thus resulting in the rout, thus resulting in Jackson's night reconissance, thus resulting in him being shot, thus resulting in him getting sick, thus resulting in his death. Actually, Hooker 'suggested'(ordered) to Howard that he should dig in when Jackson was marching. He thought they were retrating, but, he wasn't going to be taken by suprise. Howard said, "Believe me when I say that I am doing everything in my power to stop them." But, he did not. THREE TIMES HOOKER TOLD HOWARD TO DIG IN. BUT, HE DIDN'T! | |

| Joe Hooker... "Ive got the Rebellion in my breech pockets and God almighty cant take it away from me." Ha Ha that cracks me up! Why call God All Mighty when he cant do all his sovereign will? The Lord who sits in the heavens shall laugh. (Psalm 2) | |

| Actually, IBG, as far as Hooker knew, Howard had intrenched his position. Hooker, upon recoiling at the first brush with elements of Longstreet's corps, ordered the whole line to dig in. Howard repeatedly assured Hooker that his men would entrench. Hooker had inspected almost the whole line personally, except for XI Corps, but he was short on time, and decided to take Howard's (who was at HQ) word for it, to the effect, that 'the entrenchments on my line are some of the most beautiful you will ever see.' Of course, Howard's men weren't entrenched at all. So therefore, you can say that it was more directly Howard's fault. Of course, that's very loose reasoning. | |

| Well, Howard and Hooker share the blame you could say. Hooker was still sore about it when the Atlanta Campaign occured. He felt that he was qualified to take command of one of Sherman's armies (which he was) but, Sherman wouldn't let him because of Chancellorsville. WHen Howard got the position, to add insult to injury, Hooker was placed under Howards command. Hooker swore that if he didn't get taken from Howards position, then he would quiet. Sherman didn't, and Hooker left. | |

| That was a highly insulting thing for Sherman to do. He definitely knew what he was doing, it was the ultimate insult. He probably wanted to get rid of Hooker, if only because of a personality clash. But even this doesn't make sense considering Hooker's post-Chancellorsville record, which wasn't bad. | |
