| I'm using this thread to acknowledge some Civil War person, battle, weapon, etc. each day.

| Person of the Day: Dick Dowling. Commander of the forces at Fort Griffen, at Sabine Pass, Texas. Defeated a Union flotilla at the Battle of Sabine Pass.
Weapon/Item of the Day: Whitworth Rifle. Best sniper rifle produced by England. Dropped two union soldiers at a range of four miles, the longest shot of the war.
Command of the Day: Wilder's Lightning Brigade. Mounted, Spencer wielding, Union Infantry.
Battle of the Day: Battle of Selma. One of the last battles of the Civil War. Union Victory.

| Person of the Day: Henry Wirz. Commandent of Andersonville. Only person executed for War crimes.
Weapon/Item of the Day: Ironclad Gunboats. Union invention which helped secure the Mississippi.
Command of the Day: Louisiana Brigade. AKA 'Alligator Horses'. Served in the Jackson's Valley Campaign.
Battle of the Day: Battle of South Mountain. Three seperate battles in Maryland that nearly destroyed the Confederate Army before Antietam.

| Person of the Day: "Wild Bill" Hickok. Union scout that became such a famous gunslinger, spy and scout, that rebels hated him with a passion. Weapon/Item of the Day: "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." 5 verse song that bosted the moral of Northern troops. Command of the Day: 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment. Spent a good deal of it's service combing out rebel deserters from the Shenedoah Valley. Battle of the Day: Battle of Cloyd's Mountain. A 90 minute battle that was dubbed "the most firecest and intense battle of the Civil War" by veterns. | |

| Seeing that I missed yesterday, I'll write two posts down, one for yesterday and one for today. Person of the Day: Senetor Williamson R.W. Cobb from Alabama. AKA Last Rebel in Congress. He vigerously tried to keep the country together, and was the last senetor to resign. Weapon/Item of the Day: The Confederate Nitre Bureau. It turned out the largest amount of gunpowder from any mill in the Confederacy. Command of the Day: The Irish Brigade. One of the proudest units of the Union Army, it advanced the farthest at Fredricksburg towards the stone wall. Battle of the Day: Battle of Prarie Grove. A major battle in Arkansas. General Hindman was defeated in his attempt to drive the Union army out of the state. | |

| Person of the Day: James B. Gordon. AKA Murat of the Army of Northern Virginia. Cavalry Officer that served with great success. Weapon/Item of the Day: The Union Signal Corps. Helped win several major victories for the north with thier signals. Command of the Day: The Nauvoo Legion. The military unit raised by the Mormons in Utah to defend the territory from rebels and Indians. Battle of the Day: Battle of Atlanta. The biggest of John Bell Hood's attempts to save Atlanta. | |

| Person of the day: Francis Asbury Shoup. Indiana-born man who rose up to defend the Confederacy. Weapon/Item of the Day: Starr Carbine. It got a far its Union owner did not,it served until many years after the Civil War. Command of the Day: The Veteran Reserve Corps. Raised by Congress to allow disabled Union Veterans to fight if they chose. Battle of the Day: Battle of Cheat Mountain. The largest and the greatest faliure of Lee's attempts to throw the McClellan out of Western Virginia. | |

Wooden ram that served in both navies. Command of the Day: Petersburg Artillary. Confederate Artillary regiment that held Resivor Hill. Battle of the Day: Meades Breakthough at Fredricksburg. The greatest chance to win the Battle of Fredricksburg by the Union. | |

| So much for daily posts. Things have been busy. Anyways. Person of the Day: Sam Huston. Texas Govenor. Tried his best to keep the state in his beloved Union. Weapon/Item of the Day: Hall breechloaders. This weapon was one of the first breechloaders, and signaled the demise of muzzle loaders. Command of the Day: The Frontier Guards. Lincoln's personal bodyguard after Fort Sumter was fired on. Battle of the Day: Dinwiddie Court House. Union victory that crushed the hapless Pickett. | |

| Person of the Day: Lew Armistead. He died at Gettysburg, struck down for raising a hand against his old friend Hancock. Weapon/Item of the day: Steam-gun. Bostonians created this secret weapon for the Confederacy. Butler caught it before it went south though. Command of the Day: Washington Artillary. Fought in almost every major engagment for the South. Battle of the Day: Salem Church. Sedgwick's atempt to help Hooker failed, due to combined forces against him. | |
