PostSubject: gray Ghosts of Mosby's Rangers   gray Ghosts of Mosby's Rangers EmptyThu Nov 09, 2006 1:18 pm

This is a compact ctory of Mosby's Rangers. They were called Gray Ghosts because of their ability to attack and not get caught. Well, in Shenandoah Valley they gave the Union quite a hard time. Mosby got wounded and while he was out of action the Union guys went after the rangers. None of the rangers died but on of the Union men was unhorsed and killed after surrendering. The Federals decided to retailate and so they took six rangers prisoner and hung two of them and shot down the other 4. Mosby returned to duty and found out so he fought back. He captured 30, then made the prisoners draw lots for 7 who would die. the rangers reluctantly carried out the sentance. Since then there has been a appalling apparition, called Whirlwind. It's "Trademark" is a violent burst of wind howling through the feilds and forest. They think that Whirlwind is one of Mosby's men.

I didn't know about the apparition; Wasn't it G.A. Custer who captured and executed the confederate prisoners?

Custer hung them. I got some articles on it. Custer retaliated when like ten men were caught naked by Mosby (since they were bathing in a river.)

Yeah, around the same time Custer did. You can find the thing on the Historynet. Custer was part of Sheridan's Command if you didn't know.

Books can be misleading.Wink Actually, follow this link http://www.historynet.com and type in Mosby's Rangers and they will come up with the article (well, dozens of articles, but, you can find it.)

Ok IBG you almost win. I looked it up and you were almost right. According to the article there was nasty horrible actions on both sides. How there aren't more reports of ghosts is beyond me. It was gross all the bloodshed. Sad
